The prized catch in Argentina is the Golden
Dorado. This beautiful and colorful fish can be
found throughout the rivers and streams of
Argentina.
The Golden Dorado is
not to be confused which the Dorado often caught
off the coast of the US. The Golden Dorado is a
fresh water fish, whereas our Dorado is a
saltwater fish that is commonly referred to as the
Dolphin, or Mahi Mahi. The South American Dorado
can be likened to our Striped Bass because they
are similar in size (roughly 2 pounds all the way
to 40 pounds plus!), similar in shape, and both
grow quickly because of their voracious appetites.

On the Dove Hunting trips at Los Ombues many
clients chose to fish a half day on their day of
departure to rest their sore shoulder, and their
tired bodies. The fishing is done in the Parana
River and its tributaries which are literally a 3
minute drive from the lodge. Within minutes of
setting your 14 foot john boat in the water you
will be in prime Dorado waters. While trying your
luck for Dorado you depending on your bait and
your style of fishing it is likely that you will
hook the infamous Piranha. While the Piranha
doesn’t give you the challenging fight the Dorado
does, they are plentiful and lots of fun to catch.
Carlos
and staff provide all fishing equipment including
life jackets for your safety.
Don’t forget to ask your sales agent at Southern
Outfitting Company LLC about fishing while at Los
Ombues.
If your destination is Estancia Chacu in Salta,
clients are encouraged to stay at least an extra
day and try their luck on the monster Dorado in
this area. Fishing in this area is much like our
Trout and Smallmouth Bass fishing at home. There
are 2 main fishing areas that are fished, which
are the Del Valle River and the Juramento River
In the Del Valle River you will wade into the
frigid mountain waters in search of the elusive
Dorado. This area presents the most difficult
challenge, but the rewards are well worth it, as
the Dorado in this river run between 4 and 6
pounds. Fishing in the Del Valle is recommended
only for the more experienced fly fisherman.
The Juramento is wider and deeper, and the fishing
is done in a boat or on the river banks. It is
easy to use both spinning rigs and fly rods in the
Juramento, and because the Dorado is very
plentiful in this river your chance of success is
high. The Dorado in this area run generally
between 12-15 pounds, and if you are lucky you may
catch one of the 40 pound monsters that have been
known to frequent the
Juramento!
Floro and Staff provide all fishing gear and
safety equipment necessary.
Regardless of your destination, the best fishing
months, happen to coincide with the
best Dove hunting months. Prime time for fishing
is October through March which is the spring and
summer south of the equator.
Don’t forget to ask your sales agent about the
fantastic fishing in Argentina!
